  1. Sorry girls but I find it quite difficult to get knee socks without paying a fortune for them. Can you tell me were you get yours from?

You can get a pair of knee highs for a dollar at Dollar Tree or just about any 99 cents store.
Also the Hane’s outlet mall has great deals.
Be sure to use a ball point needle not a sharp one.
Using a knee high to make a dress though will run if a child plays with it roughly.
I take men’s cashmere socks that have been clearanced to make vests for dolls & also cardigan sweaters.
Sometimes getting a stretch iron on lining will help if there are floats on the back of the fabric. But it will not help with the panty hose type of knee high fabric.
You can also make a ski hat out of a cashmere sock.
Take your doll with you to measure the fabric before buying.

I should have added I use the top of the sock, it already has a finished edge for the hem of the doll.
Sometimes I have used the top of the sock for the front placket of a cardigan sweater. I do not make button holes but usually make loops and use Swiss or Austrian mini metal buttons. If you can’t find them use the plastic mini ones at JoAnn’s.

Here in Canada I sometimes buy knee socks at WalMart or there is another store called Ardene’s that specializes in socks of all sorts. They also sell costume jewellery, hair accessories and several other accessory types of notions and things. You can get some really great deals on socks there. I would guess the dollar store might also have them as well. Good luck finding them, Helen.

Janet, I have used the sleeve/cuff from a pair of fleece pj’s to make a ski hat for the dolls. Then I use the leg/cuff to do the same matching hat for the child. It works really well and absolutely no sewing is needed.
