Oh, I couldn’t believe my eyes when on Mother’s Day this year I was presented with a brand new sewing machine. Now there was nothing wrong with my old machine, in fact I loved it and was so proud of the fact that over the last 10 ½ years it has sewn thousands of doll clothes along with curtains, seat covers for our living room chairs, clothes for the family and hemmed heaps of pants and dresses for friends and family. It was just that whenever I did a video for my patterns, I was awfully embarrassed by all the paint missing and although people reassured me that it just proved it was well used, I always felt it was a distraction for people when watching my videos.
So you can imagine my excitement when I saw this huge box with my gorgeous new machine. Thankfully my family had actually been listening to me when I mentioned that I loved my machine and if I ever replaced it, it would be with the latest version of the one I have. If you are like me, you will understand what I mean when I say ‘the level of enjoyment you get from sewing depends on the quality of the relationship you have with your sewing machine’. Needless to say, my relationship has grown stronger and deeper with my new baby.
It hasn’t been all smooth sailing though as there have been some learning curves, or should I say ‘retraining’ on my part. Although most of the things are the same as my old machine, there have been some slight changes including a new button being added that has moved the reverse button up one. You can imagine after 10 ½ years of pressing in a particular place how difficult it has been to retrain my finger to go higher. Luckily I can see the funny side and laugh each time I miss my target. Hopefully I’ll have it down pat before I film my next video.
What sort of relationship do you have with your sewing machine?
